In 2026, Founder and President, October Heffner, started Survivor Sisters’ Alliance after years of recognizing the gaps in assistance Title IX offices across the country are able to provide. As a survivor, Heffner sought help that was wholistic and didn’t just mean another medical appointment or filing a legal report. While these services are extremely important to the process, understanding sensory needs, ensuring hygiene, and having a sense of support were the most critical aspects of recovery for Heffner.
When Heffner became a survivor, it was painfully obvious that amidst a global pandemic, school, and work it was hard to maintain a sense of normalcy. On the road to recovery, Heffner was able to have support from friends and family alongside medical care. However, when the trauma changed her sensory responses, it took trial and error alongside research to understand how to help her body heal.
Now as a doctoral student, she is establishing partnerships with colleges and universities across Texas to fill in this gap through the creation of Survivor Sisters’ Alliance. Heffner’s mission is to provide support to survivors and reminding them that they are not at fault or alone. By addressing basic needs with an added touch of human connection through a traumatic time, Survivor Sisters’ Alliance collaborates with Title IX Offices and other collegiate organizations to amplify the spirit of survivors.
Our mission is not possible without support from personal and corporate donations. To get involved with our mission, please consider making a donation to Survivor Sisters’ Alliance to assist with the cost of care for survivors. For corporate partnerships, please contact us directly here.
